Restorative Dentistry

Tooth restorations are the different ways dentists replace missing teeth or repair missing parts of the tooth structure. Missing tooth parts can happen as a result of decay, deterioration of a previously placed restoration or a tooth fracture.

People can feel very self-conscious at parties, work meetings or hangouts with friends if they have missing or chipped teeth. Many of them will hold back their smile and not express their full emotion which restricts their quality of life.

Our experienced team of doctors and assistants have been offering a full range of restorative dental options for over 40 years to help people increase the quality of their oral health.

When you look good, you feel good.

Examples of tooth restorations:

These are common cases where people need treatment:

Fillings

These are used to treat a cavity, repair broken teeth or repair teeth that have been worn down from misuse like nail-biting.

The dentist first removes the decayed area then prepares the space for filling by cleaning the cavity. Teeth can be filled with gold, porcelain, silver fillings, tooth-coloured plastic and materials called resin fillings.

Crown

This is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength and improve its appearance.

A dental crown may be needed in a variety of situations including protecting a weak tooth, restoring an already broken tooth, covering a dental implant or to holding a dental bridge in place.

Bridges

These are false teeth that are designed to bridge the gap between one or more missing teeth.

A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap. Bridges can maintain the shape of your face, restore the ability to speak properly and prevent your remaining teeth from shifting out of position.

Implants

These replace tooth roots to provide a strong foundation for permanent or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth.

Some of the many benefits of implants include improved appearance, eating, speech, comfort, oral health and self-esteem. Most people who have implants have very little discomfort. If they take proper care of implants, they can last a lifetime.

Dentures

These are removable replacements for missing teeth and surrounding tissues.

Those who are missing all of their teeth will use complete dentures and those who have some natural teeth can use partial dentures.

Dentures or Implants?

Dental implants are becoming a popular alternative to dentures because implants can be used to support cemented bridges which eliminates the need for dentures. But not everyone is a candidate for dental implants and only people who can handle oral surgery may have this option.

Our experienced dentists will recommend the best tooth restoration treatment for you based on your examination.

At Downsview dental, we understand how important your smile is to every aspect of your life.  When you look good, you feel good.  That’s why we offer a full range of restorative dental options to improve not only the beauty of your smile, but the overall quality of your oral health. What to Expect

At your appointment you will be examined by the dentist who will then recommend the best course of treatment for your particular case.  If a cavity is found, he may recommend that it be filled immediately. At Downsview Dental we fill cavities using a bonded resin material that is indistinguishable from your natural tooth and is extremely strong and long lasting.

Restorative dentistry also covers everything from implants, a lifelong solution to missing or damaged teeth, to dentures that can bring back your beautiful smile and help you regain vital function.
