Unexpected things can happen anytime from knocking out your tooth after falling off a bike to breaking your jaw in a car accident. No matter what problem you experience, the wonderful team at our clinic is ready to treat you the very same day you see us during our office hours.

Our established practice has been providing emergency dental services for over 40 years so you can be assured that you will get efficient and high quality care when you’re in trouble.

If you delay getting treatment for a dental emergency, you can increase the risk of permanent damage resulting in more extensive and expensive procedures later.

Save your money and time by seeing our emergency dentist right in your North York neighbourhood.

Common dental emergencies

Here are some urgent problems that many people experience and the steps that can be taken to handle them:

Chipped or broken tooth

We know it’s frightening to deal with a chipped or broken tooth, especially for the first time. But know that broken teeth can almost always be saved.

Depending on how small or big the break is, your dentist will either use a white filling to fix the tooth, put a crown or, in more serious cases, perform a root canal.

Infection

If your face swells up, it could mean you have an infected tooth, bone or gum. Contact your dentist right away and explain the problems you are experiencing.

While you wait to see the dentist, stay upright and don’t lie flat, even while you’re sleeping. It’s important to drink fluids while you have an infection because dehydration can make things worse.

Knocked out tooth

The dentist may be able to put back a knocked out adult or permanent tooth if you act quickly.

If the knocked out tooth looks clean, try to put it back in its socket (the place that once held the tooth). If you’re not able to do this, put it in a container of cold milk and go to the dental emergency clinic right away.

Something stuck between your teeth

The first thing you should try is dental floss to carefully remove the object. Never poke between your teeth with a sharp object like a pin. Doing this can cut your gums or scratch the tooth’s surface. If you’re not able to get the object out, see the dentist as soon as possible.

Lost Filling

If you lose your filling, put a piece of softened sugarless chewing gum in the spot where the filling was lost. This will protect the area for a short time while you contact and see your dentist.

Dental emergencies are extremely serious and should be attended to immediately.  It is imperative that you contact us as soon as you experience an issue, as many problems can be effectively treated if brought to our attention in a timely manner.  We accommodate all emergencies the very same day.  Our established practice has been providing urgent dental care for over 40-years, so you can feel confident trusting your teeth and oral health to the professionals at Downsview Dental.
